Wenc Photo, founded by photographer Matt Wenc, is a Chicago-based service that specializes in photographing artwork for artists, galleries, and collectors.

Location

Photo shoots take place at my studio in Mana Contemporary, located in the Pilsen neighborhood.

Equipment & Process

Hasselblad X2D 100C medium format camera featuring a 100-megapixel sensor delivers exquisite high-resolution images with 16-bit color depth.
Hasselblad XCD prime lenses capture extraordinary detail.
Broncolor Siros monolights deliver exceptional color consistency. Used with linear polarizer films, they help eliminate glare from glossy or reflective surfaces. This equipment is particularly effective when photographing oil paintings or artwork finished with gloss varnish or resin.
Calibrite ColorChecker Digital SG target ensures accurate and consistent color.
Tethered studio setup provides immediate image previews within Hasselblad Phocus.

I make every effort to provide my clients with final images within 3-5 business days of the photo shoot.

Tier 1

Starting at $40 per artwork
2-D artwork is cropped to the edge of the piece.
3-D artwork is documented from one direction.
3 files delivered for each piece of artwork.

Tier 2

Starting at $50 per artwork
Client receives images from Tier 1, plus:
2-D artwork on white background, with or without a drop shadow.
3-D artwork is documented from an additional direction.
6 files delivered for each piece of artwork.

Tier 3

Starting at $60 per artwork (2-D only)
Client receives Tier 1 and Tier 2, plus:
2-D artwork is documented from the side using focus stacking.
9 files delivered for each piece of artwork.
* Not available for artwork containing reflective media.

Additional Fees

There is an additional fee for artwork containing metallic, iridescent, interference, and other reflective media. I utilize cross-polarization photography and image compositing to document this type of work. The cost is based on the complexity of media usage and generally ranges between $10 and $40 per artwork.

For 2-D artwork under glass or plexiglass, there is an additional $15 fee per artwork.

Delivery & Payment

When your images are ready, you will be emailed an invoice that includes a link to download your files. Payment within 5-7 business days is appreciated.

Photo Shoot Guidelines

When preparing for your session, please note the following:

Frames - 2-D artwork is best unframed, unless the frame is integral to the piece or must be documented for selling purposes. Frames can cause unwanted shadows and reflected color that impact image accuracy.
Glass or Plexiglass - Removing 2-D artwork that is behind glass or plexiglass before being photographed is preferred. If not removed, there is a $10 fee per artwork to eliminate reflections and glare.
Artwork Size - The maximum artwork dimensions for photo shoots at my studio are typically 72 x 72 inches. Artwork exceeding these dimensions will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
Artwork Packaging - Please package your artwork for transit using reusable materials. Kindly refrain from using single-use stretch plastic wrap.
